(E)-3-Chloroacrylic acid is an organic molecule that belongs to the class of carboxylates. It has been shown to be a competitive inhibitor of corynebacterium glutamicum, a bacterium that hydrolyzes malonic acid. The kinetic studies on this carboxylate indicate that it is an uncompetitive inhibitor. (E)-3-Chloroacrylic acid binds to the hydroxyl group on malonic acid, forming a covalent adduct with the enzyme and preventing the reaction from proceeding. This mechanism is indicative of a nucleophilic attack by the (E)-3-chloroacrylic acid on malonic acid.
