Methyl 5-hexenoate is an ester compound that is used as a raw material for the production of biodiesel. It can be synthesized by chemoenzymatic conversion of methyl malonic acid, which is obtained by hydrolysis of ester compounds with fatty acids. This process also has a kinetic effect on the ring-opening reactions. Methyl 5-hexenoate has been shown to have a magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) signal at 3.2 ppm and a carbonyl group in its chemical structure. The reaction product can be detected by MRS because it absorbs electromagnetic radiation at this frequency range.
