It is a fluorophore, which absorbs light at wavelengths of 270 nm and 350 nm. 7-Acetoxy-4-bromomethylcoumarin has been shown to be sensitive to chromatographic methods. This fluorescent compound is used as a molecular probe for detecting fatty acids in fats and oils. 7-Acetoxy-4-bromomethylcoumarin has also been used to study the synthesis of mycolic acids and fatty acids.
