It has been shown to have effects on cardiac cells, such as inhibition of automaticity and spontaneous depolarization. 4-Methylbiphenyl-2-carboxylic acid also has a depressant effect on atrioventricular node, leading to reduced heart rate and blood pressure. 4-Methylbiphenyl-2-carboxylic acid is widely used in the treatment of atrial fibrillation and other arrhythmias.
