Vanillin oxime is a compound that has been shown to be effective in treating inflammatory bowel disease. It is an amine and a methyl ethyl ether. Vanillin oxime binds to the homologous protein, which is a part of the gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptor. This binding causes a conformational change in the GABA receptor, resulting in increased activity of GABA at the synapse and reduction of inflammation. Vanillin oxime also has anti-fungal properties and has been shown to inhibit growth of Candida albicans and other fungi in vitro.
