4-Methoxyquinolin-2(1H)-one is a hydrogen chloride derivative that is a nucleophile. It can form an addition product with dictamnine, or react with chloride to form an addition product with malonic acid and dihydrocinnamic acid. 4-Methoxyquinolin-2(1H)-one is a quinoline derivative that has inhibitory activities against the biosynthesis of fatty acids and cholesterol. This compound may be used in the treatment of hypercholesterolemia and atherosclerosis, as well as for cancer treatments. The efficient method for synthesizing this compound is to reflux ether extracts in hydrochloric acid for three hours.
