2-Formylpropionic acid ethyl ester is an organic compound with the formula CHC(O)CHCHO. It is a white crystalline solid that is soluble in organic solvents. This compound is produced by the reduction of thiourea and has been used as a ligand in organometallic chemistry. 2-Formylpropionic acid ethyl ester reactions are catalyzed by copper, nickel or palladium. The reaction occurs via reductive elimination, with the release of ethyl formate and hydrogen gas. 2-Formylpropionic acid ethyl ester also inhibits pyrazole derivatives, which are pharmacological targets for treatment of cancer and other diseases.
