6-Methoxy-naphthalene-1-carbonitrile is a probe used to study the affinity of aminosulfonyl and phenolic groups for acidic and ethylene groups. It is also used as a medicinal agent for malaria. 6-Methoxy-naphthalene-1-carbonitrile binds to pyrimethamine, an antimalarial drug, and inhibits the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR), which is involved in folate biosynthesis. This compound has been shown to have some activity against malaria parasites in laboratory studies.
