Sappanone A is a compound that has been shown to have antioxidative properties and to inhibit the apoptosis pathway. It also prevents the development of autoimmune diseases and reduces inflammation in the bowel. The ability of Sappanone A to prevent oxidative damage in cells may be due to its ability to block the activation of NF-κB, a transcription factor that regulates inflammatory responses. This chemical has also been shown to have protective effects on cardiac cells, as it protects against ventricular dysfunction following ischemia reperfusion injury. Sappanone A binds with high affinity to homologous proteins and inhibits their function by blocking the mitochondrial membrane potential.
