Dasycarpol is a natural product that has been found to have anti-cancer properties. A methanolic extract of the bark of the dasycarpus tree was found to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in a study with lung cancer cell line A549. Dasycarpol also showed neuroprotective effects in an animal model of Parkinson's disease, as it protected against dopaminergic neuronal loss and reduced oxidative damage to neurons. Dasycarpol also showed antimicrobial activity against several microbial species, including Aspergillus niger and Escherichia coli. The mechanism of action for this compound is not yet known, but it may be due to its ability to inhibit protein synthesis or prevent cell proliferation.
