It is soluble in organic solvents and shows good efficiency as an electron acceptor because it can be easily converted into the corresponding sulfide. Trans-1,2-bis[5-(trimethylstannyl)thiophen-2-yl]ethene can be used for the fabrication of thin film solar cells and polymer solar cells.
