This compound binds to cisplatin via hydrogen bonding interactions and can be used in x-ray crystallography studies. 2,5-Dibromo-4-(hydroxymethyl)pyridine has been shown to bind to the ligand binding site of cisplatin with a Kd = 3.2 ± 0.1 μM and an association rate constant (kon) of 1.5 ± 0.1 × 10M−1s−1, which is much slower than other compounds such as adriamycin or doxorubicin. The stability of 2,5-Dibromo-4-(hydroxymethyl)pyridine in solution at pH 7 is less than 6 hours at room temperature, while the stability of cisplatin is greater
