11-Hydroxyundecanoic acid is a monomer that is used in the synthesis of other organic compounds. It can be synthesized from hexane, a hydrocarbon compound. 11-Hydroxyundecanoic acid has an optical rotation of +20° to +30° and is soluble in water. The hydroxyl group and the hydroxy group are able to react with each other under certain conditions. 11-Hydroxyundecanoic acid can be produced by chemical reactions or by enzymatic reactions (e.g., dehydrogenase). This substance has been shown to inhibit influenza virus replication in vitro by inhibiting viral protein synthesis.
