3' Chloro-4-dimethylaminoazobenzene is a carcinogenic substance that belongs to the group of formyl, aminoazo, and nitrobenzamide derivatives. 3' Chloro-4-dimethylaminoazobenzene has been shown to have carcinogenic activity in rats and mice. The substance was administered orally in the diet at doses of 0.5% or 2.0% for 104 weeks and had an LD50 of less than 50 mg/kg bw per day in rats. The carcinogenicity was found to be related to the chloro and methyl substituents on the aromatic ring.
