Trans-2-Decenal is an important component of the oxidative DNA damage caused by light exposure and has been used to study the chemical reactions that occur during this process. The trans-2-decenal diethyl acetal (TDA) can be synthesized from trans-2-decenal with a deuterium isotope, which can then be used for analytical purposes. TDA has also been shown to have phenolic acid properties and reacts with organic compounds to form new compounds.
