Ethyl 2,3-dihydroxybenzoate is an acid ethyl ester that is used in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals. It is an active ingredient in cellulose and paper. Ethyl 2,3-dihydroxybenzoate has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria by inhibiting fatty acid synthesis and preventing the production of lipids. This compound also has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of human sperm motility and function.
