Ethyl 3-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)acrylate is a natural compound found in plants. It has been shown to have antibacterial efficacy in vitro and ferulic acid, caffeic acids, and 4-hydroxycinnamic acid are thought to be the cause of its antimicrobial activity. Ethyl 3-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)acrylate also has antioxidant properties due to its reactive nature. This compound has been found to inhibit the growth of bowel disease bacteria as well as other microbes that are resistant to antibiotics.
