(8Z)-Dodecenyl acetate is a synthetic organic compound that is used as a solvent and has physiological effects. It is a hydrocarbon with the chemical formula CH2=C(CH3)(CH2)4-CO-OCH3. It has a hydroxyl group, an arthropoda receptor cell, and methoxy groups on its structure. (8Z)-Dodecenyl acetate inhibits the metabolic rate of cells by inhibiting the enzyme succinic dehydrogenase in mitochondria. It also synergizes with other chemicals to increase their inhibitory effect on insect pests such as protrusions. This chemical can be found in isomeric mixture or pure form because it can be made synthetically or extracted from natural sources such as soybean oil.
