2,4-Dibromo-1-methoxynaphthalene (2,4-DMN) is a synthetic organic compound that is used as an intermediate in the production of nitrate esters. 2,4-DMN is produced by the reaction of methoxy groups with nitric acid to form dibromonitrosyl methoxy groups. The resulting product has a high nucleophilic reactivity and can be used as a nucleophile in various reactions. This compound is also used to produce ammonium nitrate by means of debromination followed by shift. 2,4-Dibromo-1-methoxynaphthalene has been shown to have an uptake rate that varies depending on its stereoisomer composition.
