Descrição:
2-Methoxy-5-methylbenzonitrile is an experimental, stereoisomeric methyl ether. It is a colorless liquid with a pleasant odor that has been analyzed in the gas phase and in solution. 2-Methoxy-5-methylbenzonitrile has two conformers, one of which is more stable than the other. The more stable conformer has an ortho orientation of the methyl groups and a dipole moment of 1.6 D (dipole). The less stable conformer has a meta orientation of the methyl groups and a dipole moment of 0.6 D (dipole). The meta form is more reactive than the ortho form because it can interact with nucleophiles to produce products such as methoxymethyl ethers or methanol.
