Mefluidide is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug that belongs to the class of chemical compounds called pyrazoles. It has been shown to have structural and physiological effects on cell nuclei in plants and animals, including inflammatory bowel disease. Mefluidide inhibits the activity index of inflammatory bowel disease by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX) enzyme activities. This agent also reduces the production of prostaglandins, which are mediators of inflammation and pain. Mefluidide is a model organism for studying nuclear DNA, as it has been used in structural analyses and physiological effects on cell nuclei in plant cells.
