Potassium guaiacolsulfonate is a nitrogen containing compound that is used as an analytical reagent in the determination of the amount of potassium in a sample. It absorbs uv radiation and can be used for the detection of potassium in biological samples. The thermal expansion coefficients of potassium guaiacolsulfonate are similar to those of other crystalline cellulose materials, making it useful for particle size analysis. Potassium guaiacolsulfonate can also be used as a reactant in chemical reactions, such as diazonium salt formation or fatty acid synthesis. The pharmaceutical preparations that contain potassium guaiacolsulfonate are used to treat high blood pressure and heart conditions.
