5(6)-carboxynaphthofluorescein is a fluorescent dye that is used as a marker for optical systems, conjugates, and diameters. It is also used in the determination of photostability and immobilization. 5(6)-carboxynaphthofluorescein has been immobilized on the surface of polystyrene beads. The dye is soluble in organic solvents such as acetone and chloroform, but it does not dissolve in water. The immobilized dye can be removed from the beads by washing with an appropriate solvent or by heating to about 60°C for a few minutes. 5(6)-carboxynaphthofluorescein is soluble in bromophenol blue, phenolphthalein, and bromocresol green. It has no clinical applications.
