MMP Inhibitor II is a protein inhibitor that inhibits the activity of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), which are enzymes that break down collagen. MMP Inhibitor II blocks the activity of these enzymes by binding to them, thereby preventing them from breaking down collagen. It has been shown to be effective in inhibiting cancer cell growth and has been proven to be safe and effective in animal studies. The protein can also be used as a sample preparation reagent for x-ray crystallography. MMP Inhibitor II is also effective against prostate cancer cells, as well as other types of cancer cells, such as epidermal growth factor receptor activated breast cancer cells. MMP Inhibitor II also binds with high affinity to epidermal growth factor (EGF) receptors and inhibits their activation. This drug has an extremely long half-life, making it useful for pharmacokinetic purposes.
