Tris (2-Carboxyethyl) Phosphine Hydrochloride (TCEP) is a compound that has been used as a chemical reagent in biological biochemical reactions. It is an experimental model for the study of transfer reactions and has shown to be toxic to mammalian cells. TCEP was found to inhibit mitochondrial functions and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in human serum. It also inhibited protein synthesis in vitro, which may be due to its ability to bind basic proteins. TCEP is used as a matrix effect control in vitro methods and has shown to have a positive response element on certain genes.
