Phenylthiohydantoin-phenylalanine is a molecule that is involved in the modification of messenger RNA. It is an α-subunit of the protein kinase C. This protein has been shown to be activated by wheat germ and phenyl groups, which are organic acids. The hydroxyl group in this molecule is also known to activate liquid chromatography. The amino acid sequence for this protein contains several modifications, including hydroxylation at the α subunit, phosphorylation at Thr-3, and glycosylation at Ser-205. Activation energies were calculated for several sites on this molecule.
