Phenylthiohydantoin-proline is a calibration standard that is used in the acetylation of proteins and peptides. Phenylthiohydantoin-proline consists of phenylthiohydantoin, a small molecule with a molecular weight of 205.3, and proline, which has a molecular weight of 147.14. The chemical properties of phenylthiohydantoin-proline are similar to those of phenylthiourea and proline. Phenylthiohydantoin-proline is soluble in water at low concentrations but insoluble at high concentrations. The calibration standard can be applied to sephadex g-100 columns for the separation of proteins or peptides on an ultracentrifuge. Phenylthiohydantoin-proline can also be used as an antigen in the validation process for polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, where it will bind to dodecylam
