The addition of butyltriethoxysilane to an aliphatic hydrocarbon leads to the formation of multi-walled carbon nanotubes. Butyltriethoxysilane reacts with inorganic acids such as hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid to form polysilanes (polymer films).
