1-[2-(Diphenylmethoxy)ethyl]piperidine is an intermediate in the preparation of a pharmaceutical dosage form. It is used as an excipient to give bulk, stability, and solubility to other drugs. 1-[2-(Diphenylmethoxy)ethyl]piperidine has been used as a targetable drug delivery system for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. The drug binds to the fatty acid component of the cell membrane, which can then be localized by magnetic resonance imaging. This class of compounds has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties that may be due to its ability to solubilize lipids in the plasma membrane and inhibit the synthesis of inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins.
