This compound has been shown to metabolize through microbial metabolism with a chiral center (2R), which can be used as an indicator of microbial activity. 2-(4-Chlorophenyl)butanoic acid also has anti-inflammatory properties that may be due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis.
