Dysprosium(III) bromide hydrate is a salt that contains dysprosium, bromide, and water molecules. The molecular structure of this compound can be seen in x-ray crystal structures. It has been shown to emit light, which may be due to the presence of an intermolecular hydrogen bond between nitrogen atoms on the ligand and dysprosium ions. This compound is also magnetic and reacts with copper chloride to form a light emitting complex. Dysprosium(III) bromide hydrate has been shown to have a neutral pH and can react with methanol as a solvent. The mechanism for this reaction is through hydrogen bonding interactions between the ligand's nitrogen atoms and the metal ion's lone pair electrons on oxygen atoms, which are adjacent to the metal ion.
