It reacts with an enzyme to produce a fluorescent product that can be detected using an appropriate instrument. 2,4-Dinitrophenyl)-L-lysine hydrochloride monohydrate has shown to be a useful tool for the detection of a wide range of enzymes, including alkaline phosphatase, esterases, and proteases. This substrate is used in the detection of bacteria in food and water samples as well as in diagnostics.
