5-Amino-1-(2,4,6-trichlorophenyl)-1H-pyrazole-4-carbonitrile (5ATPC) is an herbicide that inhibits plant growth by interfering with photosynthesis. 5ATPC selectively inhibits the activity of the enzyme ribulose bisphosphate carboxylase in plants, which is essential for photosynthesis. The crystal structure of 5ATPC has been determined using X-ray diffraction and shows that it crystallizes in an orthorhombic system. It contains a pyrazole ring and is bonded to a trichlorophenyl group at one end. The bonding interactions are mainly dihedral intermolecular hydrogen bonds.
