Isoangustone A is a natural product that has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and anticancer properties. It is found in the roots of Glycyrrhiza species, and has been shown to inhibit the expression of apoptosis-inducing factor (AIF) by inhibiting autophagy in colorectal adenocarcinoma cells. Isoangustone A also inhibits mitochondrial functions and induces mitochondrial membrane depolarization in prostate cancer cells. Isoangustone A shows potential for treating bowel disease by blocking the activity index, which may be due to its ability to activate dextran sulfate and increase surface methodology. This natural product also has glycyrrhizin, an extract from Glycyrrhiza species, which has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells by binding to penicillin-binding proteins.
