It binds to the DNA or RNA and prevents further synthesis by forming covalent bonds with the nucleotides. This drug has been shown to be active against bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Mycobacterium tuberculosis. 2DAMC also has antimicrobial properties against Gram positive bacteria such as Clostridium perfringens and Gram negative bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa. 2DAMC has been shown to inhibit the growth of yeast cells by binding to the DNA in their nucleus and preventing transcription and replication.
