beta-Mannachrome A.R. is a diagnostic chemical that is used for the detection of bacterial infections and the identification of bacteria. It can be used to detect bacteria in culture media, environmental testing, food testing, or staining. beta-Mannachrome A.R. binds to bacterial cell walls and is then converted into a fluorescent molecule when exposed to ultraviolet light or other triggers, such as hydrogen peroxide. The fluorescence can then be detected by a fluorometer or spectrophotometer to identify the type of bacteria present.
