4,4'-Bis(9H-carbazol-9-yl)-2,2'-dimethylbiphenyl (BODIPY-CBP) is a fluorescent dye that has been shown to be useful for the diagnosis of chronic kidney disease. It is used as a marker of cytosolic protein in cell cultures and has been shown to have a high correlation with systolic blood pressure in studies of chronic kidney disease. The fluorescence intensity of BODIPY-CBP is sensitive to changes in pH, which makes it useful for the analysis of acidity. In addition, BODIPY-CBP has been found to be useful for the study of protein synthesis in cells because it binds to the ribosome. This binding leads to an increase in fluorescence intensity and can be measured using flow cytometry.
