2-Amino-1,3,4-thiadiazole is a metabolic inhibitor that binds to the ryanodine receptor, a calcium channel in the sarcoplasmic reticulum of muscle cells. This drug has potent antitumor activity and is used to treat metastatic colorectal cancer. 2-Amino-1,3,4-thiadiazole also inhibits microbial growth by binding to the dinucleotide phosphate (NAD) coenzyme complex and preventing bacterial metabolism. It may be an effective antimicrobial agent against Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pneumoniae. The nitrogen atoms in 2-amino-1,3,4-thiadiazole bind to chloride ions and form thiazolidine derivatives with malonic acid as a noncompetitive inhibitor of ATP synthesis. In addition, this drug inhibits protein synthesis by binding to the 30S rib
