The impurity alphaR-N-hydroxy-alpha-methyl-N-[3-[3-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]propyl]-1-naphthalenemethanamine is an impurity of the drug benzylamine. It is a n-oxide and its structure is the same as the corresponding amide in benzylamine with a hydroxyl group on the nitrogen atom. Benzylamine was isolated from the reaction product of benzaldehyde and ammonia with hydrochloric acid, where it was obtained as an oil that solidified upon exposure to air. This impurity has been identified as a contaminant in samples of benzylamine.
