Almitrine-raubasine is a drug that has been used in China to treat metabolic disorders. It is a mixture of two drugs, almitrine and raubasine. Almitrine-raubasine increases the metabolic rate and ATP levels by inhibiting the enzyme activity of phosphofructokinase in mitochondria. This drug also has been shown to be effective for slowing down the growth of cancer cells. Almitrine-raubasine may have potential as a drug target for cancer treatment or other metabolic diseases, such as diabetes mellitus or obesity.
