3-Amino-3-(p-chlorophenyl)propionic acid is an ethoxylate homologue of malonic acid. It is a competitive inhibitor of glycol ethers, carboxylic acids, sulfonic acids, and cationic surfactants. 3-Amino-3-(p-chlorophenyl)propionic acid has been shown to be a reversible inhibitor of fatty acid synthesis in rats and mice. The drug also has cholinergic activity, which may be due to its ability to inhibit acetylcholine release from nerve endings. 3-Amino-3-(p-chlorophenyl)propionic acid has been used in the treatment of depression and short-chain fatty acid disorders.
