5-Amino-4-cyano-3-methylthiophene-2-carboxamide is an organic compound that has been shown to be a very strong acceptor of light. The compound absorbs light and undergoes electron transfer from the excited electron to an electron in a higher energy level. It has also been shown to have the ability to absorb light at wavelengths of 400 nm, 430 nm and 450 nm. 5-Amino-4-cyano-3-methylthiophene-2 carboxamide can be used as a chromophore in organic solvents and is soluble in both water and organic solvents. This photoactive molecule has been studied extensively for its photophysical properties, and it has exhibited electrochemical properties when dissolved in solvents such as dimethylformamide or acetonitrile.
