7-Aminocephalosporanic acid is a molecule that can be used for wastewater treatment. It is an antibiotic with a broad spectrum of activity against bacteria and fungi, as well as some viruses. 7-Aminocephalosporanic acid has been shown to have antimicrobial properties in the human serum and to bind to the α subunit of cephalosporin, which is involved in bacterial cell wall synthesis. This compound contains nitrogen atoms with high biological reactivity, which may be due to its ability to form disulfide bonds on protein surfaces.
