3-Amino-1-methyl-1H-pyrazole-5-carboxylic acid hydrochloride is an antiviral compound that inhibits the replication of viruses. It has a high affinity for the viral nucleic acid and acts as a competitive inhibitor of viral DNA polymerase, which prevents the production of viral DNA. 3-Amino-1-methyl-1H-pyrazole-5-carboxylic acid hydrochloride also inhibits the production of cellular proteins that are required for virus infection and replication, such as trimeric GTPases and host cell proteins. This drug is not active against bacterial infections, but it has been shown to inhibit the growth of some bacteria, such as methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
