2-Amino-5,6-dihydro-4H-benzothiazol-7-one is a thiourea that is used as a reactant in the synthesis of brominated compounds. It reacts with ethanol to form 2,5,6-triaminopyrimidine and hydrogen bromide. This reaction occurs in the presence of acid such as hydrochloric acid or acetic acid. The reflux reaction is commonly conducted at elevated temperatures and pressures.
