Acotiamide hydrochloride trihydrate is a chemical compound that is structurally related to acotiamide, an amino acid. It has been shown to be metabolized in humans by the glucuronidation pathway and excreted as the glucuronide conjugate. Acotiamide hydrochloride trihydrate has been used in animal studies for the treatment of diabetic neuropathy and other symptoms. This drug also has a pharmacological effect on the metabolism of glucose and may be useful in treating metabolic disorders such as type 2 diabetes mellitus. Acotiamide hydrochloride trihydrate has not shown any evidence of carcinogenic potential, though it has shown some evidence of causing mutations with prolonged exposure.
