17-Amino-10-oxo-3,6,12,15-tetraoxa-9-azaheptadecanoic acid is a phthalic acid derivative that is used in the preparation of methylbenzene. This compound is prepared by refluxing a mixture of acetonitrile and ethyl acetate with water. The product is then crystallized from the solution. The 17-amino group can be deaminated to form 10-oxo-3,6,12,15-tetraoxa-9-azaheptadecanoic acid. This compound has been shown to be useful in the production of polymers and pharmaceuticals such as methacrylic acid.
