- Phenol, 3-amino-4-nitro-
3-Amino-4-nitrophenol (3ANP) is an environmental pollutant that is used in the manufacture of dyes, pesticides, and pharmaceuticals. 3ANP has a molecular weight of 122.07 g/mol and a melting point of 98°C. It has a high solubility in water, which makes it useful for wastewater treatment plants to remove organic compounds from the water supply. 3ANP has been shown to have osmotic properties and can cause osmosis when dissolved in water. This chemical also has a high surface tension due to its polarizability, which causes it to be more difficult for organisms to grow on its surface. 3ANP can be used as a bioreactor by introducing amines into it through the process of hybridization. This allows bacteria to grow on the surface of 3ANP particles in an enclosed environment, producing hydrogen gas as a byproduct.
