Acetyl-phenylalanine is a reactive chemical that is used in the laboratory as an inhibitor of protein synthesis. It has minimal toxicity and can be used to study the effect of chemical reactions on proteins. Acetyl-phenylalanine can be used to inhibit the enzymes, synthetase and p. pastoris, which are involved in the synthesis of proteins. Acetyl-phenylalanine has been shown to have clinical relevance as it inhibits the enzyme epidermal growth factor (EGF) and its receptor, EGF receptor (EGFR). The inhibition of these enzymes causes skin cancer cells to die without affecting normal cells. Acetyl-phenylalanine has also been shown to inhibit cell lysis and enzyme activities, making it useful for analytical chemistry studies.
