It has been shown to inhibit the enzyme acetone carboxylyase and chain length acylase, which are involved in bacterial growth and production of fatty acids. D-2-Aminodecanoicacid has also been found to be an enantioselective inhibitor of bacterial acetone carboxylyase. This drug hydrolyzes to L-alanine and 2-aminodecanoic acid, which can be used as a precursor for pharmaceuticals. The hydrolysis of this drug by enzymes may produce homologous products with different chirality or enantiomers.
